Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 2026

1. Overview

PassTip ("we", "our", or "us") is a privacy-first password generator that operates entirely in your browser. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about how this service works. This policy explains what information we collect (and, more importantly, what we do not collect) when you use PassTip.

2. What We Collect

When you visit PassTip, our server receives your public IP address as part of the standard HTTP request process - this is inherent to how the internet works. We do not log, store, or retain any IP addresses after the response is delivered.

The password you generate, all password options you select (length, character types, exclusions), and any QR code you reveal are processed entirely within your browser. No password data, generated content, or user input is ever transmitted to our servers or any third-party service.

3. How We Use Information

The server processes your HTTP request solely to deliver the page and its static assets (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, SVG icons, and font files). We do not:

  • Store or log IP addresses, user agents, or any request metadata on our servers
  • Send your password or any input data to any server
  • Serve advertisements or share data with advertisers

4. Client-Side Processing

All password generation, entropy calculation, strength grading, crack-time estimation, and QR code rendering are performed locally in your browser using client-side JavaScript. The QR code is generated using the qrcode library running entirely in your browser - no data is sent to any external API or service to generate or display the code.

Because everything runs on your device, PassTip continues to function even if you disconnect from the internet after the page loads.

5. Local Storage

PassTip uses localStorage to remember your dark/light theme preference. If you have not chosen a theme, PassTip follows your browser or operating system appearance setting. No other data is stored in localStorage or any other browser storage mechanism. No tracking cookies, session cookies, or third-party storage is used.

6. Third-Party Services

PassTip uses the following third-party services:

  • Google Fonts - used to load the Inter and Space Mono font families. Your IP address may be transmitted to Google's servers when requesting font files.
  • Google Analytics - used to understand how visitors use PassTip (pages visited, device type, general region). This helps us improve the service. Google Analytics uses cookies and collects anonymous usage data. No password data or user-generated content is ever sent to Google Analytics. You can opt out of Google Analytics by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

No user-generated content (passwords, options, or QR data) is ever sent to any third-party service.

7. Data Retention

We do not maintain any database of user IP addresses, passwords, or usage history. Each page visit is a stateless, ephemeral request. No personally identifiable information is retained on our infrastructure after your session ends.

8. Children's Privacy

This service is not directed at children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected by an updated date at the top of this page. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
